Here’s What to Expect at Your First Appointment
New to Our Office? No Worries—We’ve Got You Covered
We get it—going to the dentist, especially for the first time, can feel a little overwhelming. But don’t sweat it! At Clarkson Family Dentistry, we’re all about making your experience as relaxed and comfortable as possible. From the moment you walk in, we’re here to make sure you feel right at home.
Before You Arrive: What You’ll Need
We like to keep things simple, but there are a couple of things you’ll want to take care of before your first visit:
- Fill Out Our New Patient Forms
To save some time, we’ll send you the forms online or you can download right from our website and email them to frontdesk@clarksonfamilydentistry.com. Knock these out at home, and you’ll breeze right through check-in.
- Bring Your ID and Insurance Info
Make sure you have your driver’s license and dental insurance card handy so we can make sure everything’s good to go.
- List of Medications
If you’re taking any medications, bring a list so we can make sure we’re giving you the best care possible.
That’s it! Easy, right?
When You Get Here: What Happens Next
Once you’ve arrived, here’s how your first appointment will go down:
1. Friendly Welcome
You’ll be greeted by our awesome front desk team, who will check you in and answer any last minute questions.
2. Meet Your Dental Hygienist
One of our hygienists will call you back and take you to the exam room. They’ll chat with you about any concerns you might have and start with a gentle cleaning to freshen up those pearly whites.
3. X-rays (If Needed)
We’ll snap some quick X-rays so we can get a good look at what’s going on with your teeth and gums. Don’t worry—these are super quick and totally painless!
4. Meet Your Dentist
Now it’s time to meet your dentist! They’ll take a look at your X-rays and give your teeth a thorough check-up. If you’ve got any questions, now’s the time to ask! We’re happy to explain anything you want to know about your oral health.
5. Personalized Plan
Based on what we find, your dentist will chat with you about any next steps, whether it’s a simple follow-up cleaning or a treatment you might need down the road. No surprises—just straightforward, honest recommendations.
6. Scheduling Your Next Visit
Before you leave, we’ll help you book your next appointment and answer any insurance or payment questions you might have.
How Long Will My First Appointment Take?
Plan on being with us for about an hour. We’ll do a full check-up and cleaning, and we like to spend a little extra time getting to know you and your smile!
What to Expect During the Appointment
We know going to the dentist can sometimes feel a bit nerve-wracking, especially if it’s been a while since your last visit. Here’s the good news: we’re here to make things easy. Our team is super friendly and laid-back, and we’ll walk you through each step of the process so there are no surprises.
Whether it’s a simple cleaning or a more complex procedure, we’ll make sure you’re comfortable from start to finish. And hey, if you’re feeling nervous, just let us know— we’ve got plenty of tricks to help you relax!
Payment and Insurance Information
We accept many major dental insurance plans, and our front desk team is happy to help you understand what’s covered. We’ll make sure you know upfront what your insurance takes care of and what you might be responsible for, so there are no surprises when it comes to cost.
No insurance? No problem. We offer flexible payment options to fit your budget and help you get the care you need without the stress.

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!
Do I need to arrive early for my first appointment?
If you’ve already filled out your paperwork online, arriving 10-15 minutes early should be plenty of time to get settled in and check-in at the front desk.
Will I get a cleaning at my first appointment?
Yep! Unless there’s something urgent that needs to be addressed first, your first visit will usually include a cleaning along with your exam and X rays.
What if I haven’t been to the dentist in a while?
No worries! We’re just glad you’re here now. Whether it’s been six months or six years, we’ll work with you to get your oral health back on track.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens! Just give us a call at least 24 hours in advance, and we’ll be happy to reschedule your appointment.
